Fire at UW Art Building intentionally set

SEATTLE — The fire that damaged the Art Building at the University of Washington Wednesday night was intentionally set, said officials with the Seattle Fire Department.

University police and firefighters responded to 1915 Northeast Chelan Lane at about 9:30 p.m. after a report of a fire.

When crews arrived, dense smoke was on the second floor of the building.

Firefighters contained the fire to one room and quickly extinguished it.

Seattle Fire believed the small fire to an art exhibit was suspicious so an arson investigator was called in.

According to authorities, the investigation revealed the fire was intentionally set.

People were still inside the building during the time of the fire and a few people evacuated.

There were no injuries.

Investigators do not have  information on who set it and an investigation continues.
