Boat erupts in flames, sinks in Lake Washington

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Bellevue firefighters said multiple people called 911 early Thursday to report an explosion and subsequent fire on a moored boat.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 5400 block of Pleasure Point Lane shortly after midnight Thursday and arrived to find a 40-foot boat engulfed in flames.

Eleven firefighters from Bellevue fire worked to put out the flames and Mercer Island Marine Patrol and police from Bellevue and Seattle assisted.

Bellevue fire said a person who tried to put the fire out on own was burned, but the injuries were not serious.

The boat sunk in about six feet of water and is a total loss.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
