OLYMPIA, Wash. — A 30-year-old woman who was walking on a popular trail was hit with a baseball bat by a man riding a bike, deputies said.

The incident happened on the Chehalis Western Trail near 26th Avenue Northeast before 5 p.m.

According to police, the woman reported a man on a bike came up behind her and struck her in the head with an aluminum baseball bat.

She was taken to a nearby hospital for a two to three inch gash.

Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies say the man is described as in his 30s, with dirty blond hair, with a scruffy beard and wearing a puffy blue coat.

Others on the trail saw a man matching that description hiding something under his coat.

One month ago, police reported two women walking the trail were slapped on the buttocks by a man riding a bike behind them.

Investigators worry Sunday’s incident could be a dangerous escalation of these bike assaults.
