Police arrest 38 in ‘Operation Blade Runner' drug sting

SEATTLE — Undercover officers targeting drug dealers arrested more than three dozen people in the heart of downtown Seattle in a sting called Operation Blade Runner.

For years, people who live and work in the Pike-Pine corridor of downtown Seattle have complained about drug deals on the street.

The sting operation and the arrest of 38 suspected drug dealers are aimed at helping that problem.

A crime map from the Seattle police website shows that last month in Seattle, the majority of the drug-related police reports occurred in the Pike-Pine street corridor of downtown Seattle.

There were nine police reports, not including the 38 arrests made over the weekend.

For a month and a half, undercover officers bought drugs on the street and identified 42 suspects.

Officers said they are still looking for 13 additional people in connection with drug dealing.

SPD says the operation should help with safety in the area.

The Downtown Seattle Association commended the police department on their efforts and hope the arrests make a difference, especially going into the summer, when the drug problem usually increases.
