Crews battle Walmart fire in Puyallup

PUYALLUP, Wash. — Central Pierce Fire crews battled a large fire in the garden center of a Walmart in Puyallup Tuesday night.

The fire started just before 10 p.m.

Police closed off 31st Avenue Southeast between South Meridian and 5th Street Southeast.

Walmart staff told fire officials everyone got out of the building.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire appears to be items that were stored too close to a heating unit.

The store's sprinkler system kept the fire in check. It was under control by about 11 p.m.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
