KING COUNTY, Wash. — After a celebrity appearance at a Skyway marijuana shop Monday, some people are saying the neighborhood is oversaturated with pot businesses.
Rap artist Snoop Dogg made a promotional appearance at the Have a Heart pot shop.
Even the owners of the shop agreed the number of shops in the area is overkill.
“I think there’s a very fine line of oversaturation, especially in the marketplace like ours, where it’s a pretty specific product that we’re selling here,” said co-owner Will Linn.
There have been 12 licenses issued for marijuana businesses in the area serving about 35,000 people.
If there was the same concentration of shops in Seattle, there would be 250 pot shops instead of the current limit of 44.
But Skyway is in unincorporated King County, so there are no limits on how many shops can move in.
