GRAYS HARBOR, Wash. — The Coast Guard hoisted a man suffering from a severe leg injury to safety near Grays Harbor.
Crews rappelled down a helicopter onto the north jetty of Grays Harbor Sunday to rescue the 41-year-old man.
The man was then taken to Bowerman airport in Hoquiam -- where he was transferred to Airlift Northwest for transportation to Seattle.
"Due to the severity of this man's injuries it was of the upmost importance that we get him to the medical attention he needed as quick as possible," said Chief Petty Officer Justin Urbano.
Wind on scene was 16-24 miles an hour. There was roughly two miles of visibility, authorities say.
