Amazon Fresh makes plans for 3 warehouse spaces

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

KING COUNTY, Wash. — Online grocer Amazon Fresh has filed applications for liquor licenses at three locations in King County.

The first two locations are in Seattle at 8th Avenue in the Denny Triangle and on Aurora Avenue.

The third location is on 118th Avenue Northeast in Kirkland.

Furniture retailer PriceCo is currently at the Aurora Avenue location. Signs on the store say "Everything must go. Total liquidation."

Employees at the store say they will be done with business at the location by next Friday.

People working at neighboring businesses said Amazon is working with the property.

"I think it's going to be great, because everybody knows Amazon, and I think it's going to be great to have that impact here, especially, because, on Aurora, this isn't the greatest of neighborhoods, so I think it'll be good for us," said Emily MIller, who works at Carpet Liquidators.

Amazon hasn't shared any other details of the plans for the project, but says it doesn't disclose locations of its Amazon Fresh warehouses.

Despite not knowing how many jobs the new warehouse could bring to North Seattle, or what else the location will be used for, Miller thinks it will be a good addition to the area.

"I think, for around Aurora, I think it's going to be really exciting for us," said Miller.

Suzanne Dale Estey, the president and CEO of the Economic Development Council of Seattle and King County, says the warehouses could not only boost the Aurora area, but also in other areas where the warehouses will go.

"I think that just spreads the wealth, if you will, and I actually believe these higher end jobs do help stimulate economic activity for restaurants for service industries around them," Estey said. "Just a huge multiplier for all the service industries across the region. So, yes, we're thrilled and continuing to work with companies like Amazon to make sure that they stay here and continue to grow here."

At the 8th Avenue location, where crews are currently renovating a former car dealership, pedestrians passing by weren't excited to hear about a potential warehouse moving in.

"It's not going to make it any better. There's going to be big trucks moving in and out, and there's going to be a lot of pedestrians, and with all the changes that are happening, I can't imagine it's going to help," said Ed St. Onge.

A representative for Amazon Fresh did not return calls for comment.
