14-year-old boy pleads guilty in car crash that killed 10-year-old boy

A 14-year-old boy who drove and crashed a car full of kids in Lakewood pleaded guilty in Pierce County Juvenile Court Monday to vehicular homicide and other charges.

Dylan Wilson, 10, was killed in last November's crash.

"We're too old to have children again now. That was our only child. Our whole life is messed up because of this," Dylan's father, Richard Wilson, told the judge.

Because he is a juvenile, the 14-year-old boy's sentence will be measured in weeks.

The judge accepted a recommendation to sentence the boy to between 15 and 36 weeks for vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, plus another 90 days on three lesser charges, for which he will largely get credit for time already served.

The 14-year-old did not have a criminal record and his attorney said he wanted to plead guilty and take responsibility.

Dylan Wilson was among three young passengers in the car.

Lakewood Police say the 14-year-old driver hit a car then sped away before losing control and striking a power pole and a tree.

Police say the teenager ran off.

"He had a choice. When he got in the first wreck he could have stopped. My son would still be alive if this would have happened," Richard Wilson told reporters.

Wilson said he still has questions about how the 14-year-old got hold of the car, and whether an adult is somehow responsible.

Lakewood police say they sent case details to prosecutors and their investigation is done.
