Texas boy, 11, crashes vehicle into patrol car, 2 homes

SPRING, Texas — An 11-year-old boy had from Spring, Texas, had quite the Saturday morning.

Police said the boy, who has not been identified publicly, crashed a truck into his own home, backed into a sheriff’s deputy’s unoccupied patrol car and then drove through another home in northwest Harris County, KTRK-TV reported.

Unfortunate accident. HCSO says an autistic/deaf 11-year-old got a hold of car keys in his home, took off and crashed into this home on Landry Ln. in Spring.

According to KHOU-TV, the crashes occurred just before 11 a.m. local time, and police confirmed that the child has autism and is deaf.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the child got behind the wheel, pulled forward, struck his home, backed out of the driveway, hit the unoccupied deputy’s vehicle, drove forward and “drove straight through” another residence, the TV station reported.

According to KTRK, the boy fled the scene of the crashes but was found a short while later.

“I do know that they’ve tried to keep the keys locked up and away from him. They are not sure how he found these set of keys to the vehicle, but somehow he was able to get the key to the vehicle,” Phillip Lillibridge, accident investigator for the sheriff’s office, told KHOU.

No injuries were reported, according to both TV stations.
