Simple Mills issued a voluntary recall Wednesday of some of its Fine Ground Sea Salt Almond Flour Cracker boxes after determining that they were mistakenly packed with bags of Farmhouse Cheddar Almond Flour Crackers.
“As a result, the packaging does not list the presence of a possible allergen (milk),” company officials said in a notice published Thursday by the Food and Drug Administration. “Some people who have an extreme allergy or severe sensitivity to milk could run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.”
Simple Mills officials said they learned of the mistake after being contacted by a customer. One person has reported expecting mild symptoms due to the undeclared allergen.
In a statement posted on the company’s website, officials said that there are “no safety concerns that we are aware of for those who do not have a milk allergy or dairy sensitivity.”
The crackers under recall are 4.25-ounce boxes sold on their own or as part of a three- or six-pack. They have the item number of UPC 856069005131 printed at the bottom of the boxes. The recalled boxes have best-by dates at the top of the box between Feb. 12, 2022 and Feb. 15, 2022.
The crackers were sold nationwide at a variety of stores and online. Simple Mills officials said retailers that received the recalled boxes have been notified and are removing the crackers from their warehouses, distribution centers and store shelves.
People affected by the recall were asked to contact Simple Mills through email at info@simplemills.com or by phone at 312-410-8414 Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT or Friday between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. CT.
