Mark Cuban helps out former NBA player Delonte West

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban picked up former player Delonte West at a Dallas gas station on Monday, and is working to help the homeless former NBA player get his life in order, Cuban confirmed to ESPN and The Washington Post.

West, 37, who has struggled with bipolar disorder and substance abuse in addition to being homeless, was photographed last week holding a small cardboard sign on the side of road near Dallas, the Post reported.

The photo caught the attention of Cuban, who was filmed picking up West at a gas station. The Mavericks owner was filmed picking up West, and the video, first reported by TMZ Sports, went viral.

“I can just confirm that I found him and helped him,” Cuban told the Post. “The rest is up to Delonte and his family to tell.”

According to TMZ, Cuban set up a meeting with West at the gas station in north Dallas. In a Snapchat video posted with the TMZ report, West is shown waiting inside the gas station’s convenience store. A second video depicted Cuban picking up West in his blue Tesla Model S, the Post reported.

“Good job, man,” the man recording the Snapchat video told Cuban.

Cuban took West to a hotel and offered to pay for his treatment at a drug rehabilitation facility, according to TMZ and ESPN.

West averaged 9.7 points and 3.6 assists per game over during his eight seasons in the NBA. He was a first-round draft pick for the Boston Celtics in the 2004 NBA draft out of St. Joseph’s. West played for the Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks from 2004 through 2012.
