Man arrested for stealing ambulance; bragged about it on social media, police said

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police have found the person they said stole an ambulance from outside a Memphis hospital.

Police said the ambulance was taken after 9 p.m. July 14. The crew said they parked on the street with the engine running, WHBQ reported.

Officials said a man in blue hospital scrubs got inside the ambulance and drove away. The emergency vehicle was found in North Memphis about an hour and a half later.

Police said the man also took bandages, gauze pads and the keys to the ambulance, WHBQ reported.

Desai Billingsley, 23, was seen on a Facebook video laughing about taking the ambulance, police said.

Billingsley said he took it after being released from the hospital after being shot, WHBQ reported.

He is now charged with theft of property.
