Coronavirus: Angelina Jolie donates $1M to help feed hungry children during pandemic

Actress Angelina Jolie is donating $1 million to help feed hungry children as schools close during the coronavirus pandemic.

In a news release last week, No Kid Hungry, which aims to end childhood hunger in the United States, announced that the Academy Award winner pledged $1 million to the organization “to provide meals for children from low-income families.”

“As of this week, over a billion children are out of school worldwide because of closures linked to coronavirus," Jolie, 44, said in a statement. “Many children depend on the care and nutrition they receive during school hours, including nearly 22 million children in America who rely on food support. No Kid Hungry is making resolute efforts to reach as many of those children as possible.”

In a Friday tweet, the organization thanked Jolie for her contribution.

“We’re so grateful for Angelina Jolie’s generous support!” the tweet read. “Her gift will help ensure kids across the country can access free meals during the #COVID19 school closures and every day.”

Several celebrities, including Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Kylie Jenner and Arnold Schwarzenegger, also have made large donations to organizations that are helping with coronavirus relief efforts.
