As of 7 a.m. ET, the website FlightAware had recorded 3,804 flight cancellations within, into, or out of the United States.
According to CNBC, Southwest, American, Delta, United and other airlines “said they would waive fare differences for travelers who plan to rebook flights because of the storm.”
“The storm will be prolonged, with several rounds of winter weather lasting through Thursday for portions of the central U.S. before shifting to the interior Northeast,” according to the National Weather Service.
The storm began its march across the country on Wednesday, causing airlines to cancel around 1,400 flights. More than 11 inches of snow had been recorded at Midway Airport in Chicago by Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service reported.
Winter storm warnings cover a swath of the country from Texas up to Maine.
