‘42′ to be released in theaters to honor Chadwick Boseman

Theater chain AMC Theatres will honor actor Chadwick Boseman, who died last week at the age of 43 from colon cancer.

The chain will show “42″ the biopic in which Boseman starred as baseball legend Jackie Robinson, Variety reported.

The 2013 film will be shown at more than 300 AMC locations with tickets costing $5 each.

The company polled fans which non-”Black Panther” film of Boseman was their favorite. “42″ came in first, followed by “Get on Up,” the James Brown biopic, and “Marshall,” the Thurgood Marshall biopic.

The Jackie Robinson foundation reacted to Boseman’s death, sharing photos of Boseman with Robinson’s widow, Rachel Robinson.

Harrison Ford, who appeared with Boseman in “42” as Dodgers executive Branch Rickey, in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, said of his co-star: “Chadwick Boseman was as compelling, powerful and truthful as the characters he chose to play. His intelligence, personal dignity and deep commitment inspired his colleagues and elevated the stories he told. He is as much a hero as any he played. He is loved and will be deeply missed.”

The Los Angeles Dodgers held a moment of silence for Boseman before the team’s game Saturday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Boseman died on the rescheduled MLB Jackie Robinson Day that had been postponed from its traditional April celebration due to the coronavirus pandemic, NBC Sports reported. Aug. 28, 1945, was the day that Robinson and Rickey met to get Robinson to play for the MLB, NBC Sports reported.
