Trains stopped after security guard shot by transient

Sound Transit's Southline trains were delayed after a transient took a security guard's gun and shot him, police said.

The guard came across the transient about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. There was an altercation when the guard woke him, and the transient grabbed the guard’s gun and shot him in the wrist, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

The trains were stopped while police searched for the shooter. He was found and booked into the Pierce County Jail.

The security guard is expected to recover and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The guard works for Pierce County Security which is a private security firm, and is not a Sound Transit employee, Cool said.

The shooting happened behind Parker Paints at 3000 South Tacoma Way.
