The SPD Blotter published a YouTube video Tuesday of video capture during the first weekend of a camera's debut, where officers responded to a report of a disabled car blocking a sidewalk on Capitol Hill. A dozen of SPD East Precinct officers are test-wearing body cameras that could become standard issue.
"The Seattle Police Department has been working toward this moment for more than a year. Footage from the cameras can be used as evidence against suspects, and help monitor the behavior of officers. Research has found that departments using such cameras have experienced a decline in assaults on officers, as well as the need for officers to use force," SPD Public Affairs wrote on the blotter.
The department wrote up answers to frequently asked questions about body cameras. Click here to read the FAQs.
