seattle.gov and kingcounty.gov emails tied to Ashley Madison hack

SEATTLE — Email accounts that appear to belong to Seattle-area government employees have been found to be used on the extramarital affairs-based website Ashley Madison.

KIRO 7 has found at least 16 email addresses hosted on sites like seattle.gov and kingcounty.gov using the data dump site.

More than 15,000 email address apparently registered to government or military servers have been revealed by the Ashley Madison hackers.

There is no definitive way to know for sure which email addresses actually belong to government workers.

However, there have already been several high-profile instances of government workers using their work accounts on the site or logging in at work.

KIRO 7 is asking local governments what, if any, investigating they can and will do into employees discovered to have used their work email on Ashley Madison. We also are talking to an employment attorney about whether people will be fired for using .gov accounts on the affairs website.
