LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Students at Clover Park High School were concerned with what they say was a case of excessive force on campus.

They said a school resource officer acted inappropriately when taking a student into custody a week and a half ago.

The SRO, a Lakewood police officer, is accused of putting the child in a choke hold before his arrest.

The Lakewood police department said it appears the officer was justified in his use of force, because they say the student was fighting back while the officer was trying to take him into custody. Officials said the officer grabbed the student's neck, but never put him in a choke hold.

A teacher, who tried to stop what was happening, now faces a possible obstruction charge. It will be up to the Lakewood prosecutor to determine whether charges, if any, should be filed.
