ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Issaquah company, SanMar, is recalling 479,000 onesies after concern the snaps could come loose and pose a choking hazard. The Precious Cargo onesies are imported from Vietnam. The company is voluntarily recalling all onesies made in the last year.
The snaps failed lab tests. There are no reports of the snaps coming off during regular use. There are no reports of any injuries.
The onesies included in the recall have a blue tag at the neck that says "Precious Cargo" with a picture of an elephant. The tag on the inseam has the style number, CAR40, was sold from July 2014 to July 2015 in six-month, 12-month and 18-month sizes. Click here to see a complete list of affected tracking numbers, which appear on a label in the inside left seam of each onesie.
The garments usually contain the logo of a company or an organization. SanMar sold the onesies to promotional companies and screen printers to decorate and re-sell.
SanMar President Jeremy Lott told KIRO-7, "To have a product out there that's potentially unsafe for children is not acceptable. We're working as hard as we can to get any product that's in consumer's hands, back in our warehouse."
Lott showed KIRO-7 boxes and boxes of recalled onesies still in the company's distribution center near Preston. Lott estimates the company had not sold half of the recalled product. The company has eight distribution centers across the country holding on to recalled product that will be destroyed.
Lott said his company is working to track down the recalled product. He said because of how they do businesses finding who has the products is actually easier than if they'd been sold at a retail store. "We're selling to promotional products distributers, screen printers and embroiderers so we know exactly who we sold the product to and for the most part they know who they sold it to. In many cases we know who the end user of the product is, " explained Lott.
SanMar is a family business that started in 1971. This is the company's first recall.
"I'm a father of young children and we're a family business and one of our values is doing the right thing. For us we don't take anything more serious than children's safety," said Lott, "We're really looking at how our processes broke down to make sure products we sell in the future, we never have any more safety issues."
The company said parents who have a recalled onesie should fill out this online form or call 1-888-770-7018 to get a refund.
