Investigation underway after man shot dead by Snohomish County deputies

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART) is investigating a deadly shooting involving at least one deputy with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

SMART is a team of investigators and other specialists from various Snohomish County law enforcement agencies and Washington State Patrol who respond to and investigate police use-of-force incidents.

SMART told KIRO 7 that deputies with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence near East Shore Drive, near Martha Lake Park, at around 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to reports, responding deputies encountered a man armed with a handgun at the house.

Shots were fired, and the suspect was hit. Despite lifesaving measures, the suspect died at the scene.

Nobody else was injured, including the responding deputies and homeowners, SMART confirmed.

The SMART team is investigating the incident, adding that the identification and cause of death of the suspect will be released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
