PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — A Wendy's restaurant employee was jailed after he got caught on video stealing a donation jar, according to the Port Orchard Police Department.

The cash in the jar was to go to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a nonprofit public charity dedicated to finding permanent homes for children in foster care waiting to be adopted.

The Kitsap Sun reports that police said other Wendy's staff noticed the jar was missing and reviewed the store's surveillance video. The video showed one of the employees taking it on April 3.

Officers went to the restaurant Wednesday afternoon and arrested the Port Orchard man, who is in his 20s. Police said the man admitted taking it to pay for gas.

According to the Kitsap Sun, the suspect was taken to the Kitsap County jail on suspicion of third-degree theft, with bail set at $10,000.
