One man dead, another critically injured after West Seattle shooting

SEATTLE — Laura Williamson was so upset she could hardly talk.

"I just want to leave flowers and just pray for the family," she said, tears streaming down her face. "Too many wrong people have guns."

She says her son told her that his best friend was gunned down early Saturday morning.

"He put himself through school," said Williamson. "He was a chef. He raised a little boy who wasn't his. He was a father to him. He was a great kid. I would do anything for him."

Seattle police were called to the 6900 block of 23rd Avenue Southwest at about 1-30 in the morning:30 a.m.

Neighbors on the street, just a block west of Delridge Way Southwest, reported hearing gunshots.

"I thought it was up the hill," said neighbor Mary Mitchell. "I knew that it was nearby. There were like five of them. And then there was a stop. And then there was a few more."

Seattle police found two men lying in the street; one of them died where he lay. The other man was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Hours later Williamson lay flowers near where the tragedy unfolded, still trying to figure out, she said, how it came to this.

"We all don't really know what's going on yet," said Williamson. "My son's going to the family right now to find out. It's just devastating. I am just devastated. He was like my son."

Williamson told us the man who died here was just 24 years old.

Seattle police said a suspect was arrested. But they have not identified the suspect nor a motive.
