SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — Washington State Patrol officers are investigating a crash that killed one person and injured another Saturday morning on I-5 near State Route 529 in Marysville.
Troopers said a 22-year-old man in a Honda Accord, who was either stopped or going at a very low rate of speed headed southbound, was struck from behind by a white Ford pickup truck.
The Honda hit the guardrail and came to rest on the right shoulder, troopers said.
Troopers said the pickup truck rolled, slid on its roof and then struck a guardrail. It ended up resting on its top facing northbound, partially in one lane.
The driver of the Honda died at the scene and the pickup driver was taken to Providence Hospital, officials said.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
