EVERETT, Wash. — The city of Everett will take another step toward revitalizing its waterfront Thursday.
The city wants to spend millions to improve 65 acres.
The city says they're envisioning the Port of Everett’s redevelopment, Waterfront Place, as a place to live, play and work.
The Everett Herald reports that 78-percent of the waterfront is single-family homes and duplexes, but a new 142-room hotel will help change that.
At 10 a.m. Thursday, the city will celebrate the start of the construction of a hotel the city says will double the number of waterfront rooms in Snohomish County. The Herald reports that the 142-room Hotel Indigo is scheduled to open by summer or fall of 2019.

For years, Everett's waterfront has been dedicated to industry, but now city leaders are hoping Waterfront Place in the Fisherman’s Harbor District will attract people and investments.
For a decade, the Port of Everett has been working on a half-billion dollar revitalization of its waterfront hoping to spur more economic activity.
They are planning shopping, housing, and attractions as neighboring businesses like Bluewater Cocktail Bar are trying to get in on the expansion, too.
"We're not at out max yet for cocktail bar or events or production, so I hope in the next couple years here we can max out, so that would be great,” said Amy Vernette with Bluewater Distilling.
"Everett is a community that's been at very low occupancy opportunities since 2005. There's a lot of need for housing here,” said Terrie Battuello with the Port of Everett
The city said the waterfront should be completed by 2025.
