Middle school student arrested for threatening students, administrators

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A 13-year-old student was emergency expelled for threatening students and administrators with two knives, according to the Olympia School District.

Investigators said she came out of a bathroom carrying two knives on Friday just before noon.

According to police, the Reeves Middle School student appeared agitated when she threatened to harm students and administrators.  Administrators were able to coax the girl into a conference room while other staff called 911.  Officers confronted the girl and got her to drop the knives.

The school sent an email to parents.

KIRO 7 talked to parent Astrid Robertson outside the school, “ My original reaction is compassion and sadness someone could feel that desperate.”

Parent Sunshine Campbell’s reaction, “Of course I was a little concerned. I trust the administration, it sounds like they reacted the way they know to respond."

The district says the quick action of administrators kept students and teachers safe. When officers arrested the teen, they said they found a note threatening students and teachers.

The school sent a letter home with students and will have counselors at school on Monday to help any students who were impacted by the incident.

The 13-year-old was booked into Thurston County Juvenile Detention on investigation of felony harassment and dangerous weapons in a school.
