Mail thief targeting Magnolia homes

Residents in Magnolia are hoping surveillance photos of a brazen thief will help track her down, as well as her accomplice.

SEATTLE — The photos show a woman in jean shorts and a dark tank top walking up to a Magnolia home with some phone books.

She leaves the phone books, wrapped in white plastic, and takes packages sitting on the doorstep.

The victim didn't want to talk on camera, but he told KIRO 7 he doesn’t believe the thief stopped there.

“It's amazing to me that someone would be so brazen to walk up to our front porch,” Sally Keadle, who lives a couple blocks away, said.

She found those missing packages abandoned on her doorstep, opened. One was a New Testament Bible. But Keadle’s own package from Nordstrom, which the website’s tracking feature showed as "delivered," was stolen.

Neighbors said they're well aware of the bold thieves.

“It seems like an interesting idea to bring a package to switch with another package just to make it less conspicuous,” neighbor David Shepard said. “It’s something we’re definitely going to keep an eye out for.”

Nordstrom replaced the package, which contained boots for her daughter as well as some boots of her own.

Keadle said she wants to make sure the neighborhood is on the lookout.

“That's the only way we're going to find out if it's a bigger problem,” she said. “Hopefully people realize that Magnolia residents are vigilant and it's not going to happen here anymore.”

Anyone who recognizes the thief is asked to call police.
