RENTON, Wash. — A 48-year-old man from Woodinville is in critical condition after a head-on collision in Renton on Interstate 405 this weekend.
According to the Washington State Patrol, a 27-year-old man from Tacoma was driving north in the southbound lanes of I-405 when he crashed head-on into the 48-year-old. A third car was able to swerve out of the way to avoid the collision but was still hit by the wrong-way vehicle as it rotated.
Both drivers that hit head-on were taken to Harborview Medical Center, and the 27-year-old was charged with vehicular assault. The man in the third car was not injured.
On Sunday, a spokesperson with Harborview Medical Center confirmed that the 27-year-old was in satisfactory condition, while the 48-year-old remained in critical condition in the ICU.
The roadway was blocked for almost three hours as State Patrol and Fire Department crews worked to investigate and clear the scene.
