Woman hit and killed in Puyallup by suspected DUI driver

PUYALLUP, Wash. — Police said a suspected DUI driver hit and killed a woman in Puyallup Thursday.

At 11:26 p.m., Puyallup officers were dispatched to a crash involving a car and a pedestrian in the 300 block of 39th Avenue Southwest.

Officers arrived and found a woman down in the road. The victim, a 54-year-old from Pacific, died at the scene.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicated that the victim was driving east on 39th Avenue Southwest when her car stopped in the outside lane for an unknown reason, and the woman got out.

Police said she appeared to have been hit in the inside eastbound lane of 39th Avenue Southwest by a 34-year-old man from Federal Way, who was also heading eastbound on 39th Avenue Southwest.

The man was believed to be impaired by drugs or alcohol and was arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide.

Members of the Puyallup Police Department’s Major Collision Response Team are leading the investigation.
