Two Washington cities make top 10 list for most car thefts

If you live in the Pacific Northwest, you’re at a much higher risk for having your car stolen than if you live on the East Coast, Midwest or in a southern state, according to security company ASecureLife.com.

The company ranked the top 20 US cities with the most car thefts in 2018. Two Washington State cities are within the first 10 on the list.

The analysis looked at metropolitan cities across the nation with a population of at least 100,000 to determine which had the highest rates of stolen cars.

Tacoma came in at number 6 on the list, with a rate of 5.13 cars stolen per 1,000 people.

Kent is listed at number 9, with nearly 5 cars stolen per 1,000 people.

Washington is not alone in its high car theft rates. Portland, Oregon, is number 5 on the list with 5.57 vehicles stolen per 1,000 people. Gresham ranked number 8.

Oakland, California, is at the top of the list.

ASecureLife.com also ranked the top 20 metro cities with the fewest car thefts. No Washington or Oregon cities made the list.

Which cars are stolen the most in the US?

The Honda Accord is number 1, with more than 45,000 stolen in the US in 2017. The Civic came in second, with 43,764 stolen, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s list for car models most likely to be stolen in 2017.

Ford pickups are next at number 3, followed by Chevrolet pickups at 4 and the Toyota Camry at number 5.
