Suspect in custody in sexual assault near UW’s Greek Row

SEATTLE — Investigators said a man suspected of breaking into a house near the University of Washington’s Greek Row and raping a student was caught when he returned for his shoes.

Court documents show the suspect, Brandon Jerome Robinson, lives on the same street as the victim.

SPD says they also recognized him as the same suspect they’d contacted just hours before for peeping into women’s windows.

Police said he broke into the victim’s home early Sunday morning. According to police, the victim woke up with a man she didn’t know who was assaulting her.

Police arrested Robinson Tuesday night. He waived his Wednesday court appearance, but a judge found probable cause to hold him for rape and burglary.

“The victim in this case was incredibly vulnerable as she was drunk, groggy, and not fully conscious. The victim had to push and kick her legs out toward the defendant so he could leave,” said Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Yessenia Manzo.

While the victim was at the hospital getting a rape kit done, investigators said Robinson returned.

According to court documents, “…ROBINSON knocked on the back door of the residence. He asked for his ‘black Tims.’ He said he left them the night before and wanted them back. He pointed in the direction of the victim’s bedroom.”

One of the victim’s sorority sisters took his picture and showed it to police.

An officer recognized him as a man he’d had contact with on Sunday morning who was looking into women’s windows.

Police showed Robinson that picture. He admitted it was him, and said he had been drinking that night.
