RENTON, Wash. — San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman will reunite with his former teammates at CenturyLink Field on Sunday.

"He should be received with the loudest cheer that they could possibly cheer,” Bobby Wagner, a Seahawks linebacker, said. “It's not like he (Sherman) said, 'I hate this team I want to leave.’"

The Seahawks released Sherman in March after the All-Pro cornerback suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon a few months earlier.

The 49ers signed Sherman to a three-year deal the very next day.

"It was kind of like a cool situation for him, because he ended up in San Francisco, where he went to college [nearby at Stanford University], and is still in California, where his family is close,” said Wagner.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has a lot of memories with Sherman during his playing days in the Pacific Northwest, but coach Carroll said there's one moment that stands out the most.

"Probably the ball that he tipped in the end zone in the (2013 NFC) Championship game,” said Carroll. “That moment was (unforgettable and was an amazing) on-the-field moment."

As Wagner and the Seahawks look ahead to this challenge against a revamped 49ers team, Wagner said he wants to see Seattle’s defense improve in one particular area.

"We pride ourselves on our run defense, and it hasn't been up to par,” said Wagner. “I take it upon myself to make sure that we do that better."

On the other side of the football, J.D. McKissic was activated from the injured reserve list on Wednesday. The 12’s could see McKissic suit up against the 49ers on Sunday.

"We're going to hopefully get him through the week, and if everything works out right, then we would like to have him participate this week,” said Carroll.
