HOUSTON — Seattle native and former Sounders FC star DeAndre Yedlin served as the captain of the U.S. Men’s National Team for the first time in his career on Wednesday night.
The U.S. tied with Chile 1-1 in an international friendly against Chile at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.
Yedlin was called up to the men’s national team on Jan. 3, 2014, and made his first appearance in a friendly against South Korea on Feb. 1.
Yedlin was on the U.S. 23-man roster for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and has 59 national team appearances in his career.

Following two seasons at the University of Akron, Yedlin signed with the Sounders to become the club’s first homegrown player.
Yedlin appeared in 56 games for the Sounders from 2013-2014 and was named to the 2013 MLS All-Star team.
In August 2014, Yedlin left the Sounders to join Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League.
Yedlin was loaned to Sunderland before he was moved to Newcastle United in August 2016.
