Seattle food delivery driver clings onto hood during car theft

SEATTLE — A food delivery driver tried to stop someone from stealing his car by jumping onto the hood and clinging to it as the thief fled in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.

Seattle police said that on Jan. 20 at 11:30 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a call reported as a vehicle speeding with someone holding onto the windshield while screaming for the driver to stop.

Officers checked the area and spoke with witnesses to determine the general direction of the car.

Shortly after, the man who had been on the hood of the car arrived at the West Precinct to report a car theft.

The victim told police that he had just finished delivering food for DoorDash when he pulled over and got out of his car to stretch his legs.

The car was still running when someone jumped behind the wheel and began driving away.

The victim said he jumped on the hood of the car, but the thief drove several blocks around the Capitol Hill area with the victim riding atop the vehicle.

The man said he was eventually able to reach inside the driver’s side window and pull on the steering wheel, which made the car crash.

At that point, the victim rolled off the hood of his car, and the thief drove away.

The victim then ran about a mile to the West Precinct to report his car was stolen.
