Police: Remains of missing sailor found near Sequim

SEQUIM, Wash. — Police said Saturday, hikers found the remains of missing Nimitz sailor Jeremiah Adams on the Gray Wolf Trail in Sequim.

The hikers contacted police. A search and rescue team found remains they believe to be Adams based on physical characteristics and clothing.

An autopsy will determine cause of death. Police say foul play is not suspected.

Clallam County Search and Rescue coordinated search efforts for hiker Adams, 24, in the Olympic National Forest's Buckhorn Wilderness south of Sequim, Washington.

Adams, a sailor stationed on the Bremerton-based USS Nimitz, had last been seen on the morning of May 4 when he left for a day hike.

Adams failed to rendezvous with friends for a planned hike on May 5, according to police.

Around 10:30 p.m. May 7, Adams' silver 2013 Ford Fiesta was located by fellow sailor at the Lower Gray Wolf Trailhead.

Kitsap County Search and Rescue and sailors from the USS Nimitz assisted Clallam County Search and Rescue in the search.

Authorities described Adams as white, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with blue eyes and short blonde hair.
