Police search for suspect after woman groped on trail in Gig Harbor

GIG HARBOR, Wash. — Officers with the Gig Harbor Police Department are searching for a man who they say groped a woman on the Cushman Trail early Sunday.

Police said the woman was jogging around 6 a.m., in the area of Foster street, when she was approached from behind by an unknown man.

The man briefly groped the woman and fled when the woman yelled for help, police said.

Police described the suspect as a white man in his early 30’s, about 6 feet tall, with an average build.

Officers said he was last seen wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt, dark colored pants and two-toned athletic shoes.

Police are asking anyone with information on the groping and/or suspect to come forward.

“Our officers have conducted a sweep of the area and have spoken to one potential witness. We will maintain an increased presence in this area while we gather any additional information,” a spokesperson for the police department wrote in a news release.

Police are urging people in the area to run in pairs or groups, to be aware of surroundings at all times and to carry a method of communication.
