SEATTLE — Seattle Police Department north precinct officers arrested two people found passed out in a stolen running car after it rammed into a patrol car when the driver awakened.
Officers were flagged down on Saturday at around 10:30 p.m. by someone reporting a suspicious vehicle.
Officers found a running car and saw two people passed out with drug paraphernalia inside.
Police said the car had no license plates, the ignition was damaged and there was no key, despite the running engine.
Patrol cars were moved in front of and behind the running car before officers woke up the people inside.
When officers announced themselves, the driver woke up, grabbed the steering wheel, and hit the gas pedal. When he realized the car was in neutral, the driver yelled to the passenger to put it in gear.
When the passenger put the car into gear, the car accelerated into the patrol car parked in front of it.
Officers said they began to struggle with the driver, who yelled something about having a gun. As the struggle continued, officers radioed for help, but shortly after were able to get the man out of the car and under control.
The driver was arrested for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding, violation of a no-contact order and DUI. Police said he also had warrants.
The passenger was arrested for investigation of eluding, DUI and possession of a stolen vehicle.
