DES MOINES, Wash. — Detectives with the Des Moines Police Department said on Thursday that they have found the vehicle and driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run.
Police were called to the scene near the intersection of Pacific Highway South and South Kent Des Moines Road at 7:28 a.m. on Monday. When they arrived, the victim was found unconscious in the northbound lanes of Pacific Highway South.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police the pedestrian had been trying to cross Pacific Highway South when a large commercial “semi” or “box truck” made a right turn from South Kent Des Moines Road, hitting the pedestrian. The truck did not stop and continued north on Pacific Highway South.
The victim was not in a crosswalk when they were struck.
Detectives said they are now collecting evidence and conducting interviews in the case.
