MARYSVILLE, Wash. — Firefighters rescued one man but found another dead inside a burning home in Marysville early Thursday.
Firefighters were called to the home in the 7900 block of 72nd Dr NE shortly before 3 a.m. after getting a report of heavy smoke in the three-story house.
Marysville fire crews found a man in a first-floor bedroom. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Another man was found dead in a bedroom in the basement area.
Fire officials said seven people lived in the house. No one else was hurt.
Damage was mostly kept to the basement and first story.
“There is no indication this home had working smoke alarms, which is the case in three out of every five home fire deaths,” a news release from the Marysville Fire District said.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
