One dead in domestic violence incident near Redmond

KING COUNTY, Wash. — Investigators are still on the scene of an early morning homicide.

One person is dead and another is in custody after a domestic violence call in the English Hill neighborhood just east of Redmond.

The weight of what happened here is evident in this lingering embrace. Relatives are still just learning the news.

It is only through Chopper 7 that we could see the house where someone was murdered in this English Hill neighborhood that’s unaccustomed to crime tape outside the home of one of its own.

“My friend called me this morning,” said Kara Leinen-Wever. “My jaw dropped. I couldn’t even believe it was just around our corner.”

Neighbors like Leinen-Wever are struggling to understand.

“Didn’t even think anything could happen in our neighborhood because it just is such a close-knit community,” she said. “Nothing like this would happen here.”

The King County Sheriff’s Office got a 911 call just before 8 a.m. Tuesday about a domestic disturbance at this home on 179th Avenue Northeast.

Within an hour, Woodinville fire tweeted that one person was dead and another had been taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Yet, hours later, the sheriff’s spokesman would only say that a suspect is in custody.

“We’re not offering any comments right now on the suspect or other injuries,” said Sgt. Tim Meyer. “So the relationship of that subject relative to our investigation we’re just not going to comment on.”

“It’s a very tragic to hear,” said Prasanna Samarawrickrama, a longtime neighbor.

Samarawrickrama said he jogs routinely by the house where this happened. But he’s not altogether surprised that so much sadness has hit so close to home.

“Genuinely difficult time for a lot of people,” he said. “Cooped up in their homes, not being able to go out.”

Investigators said they will be at the scene for a while longer.

Meyer said no one in the neighborhood is in any danger.

He doesn’t expect to have any additional information tonight. He said he may have more to release Wednesday.
