SEATTLE — The Seattle Police Department has released new video showing what happened in the moments leading up to an officer-involved shooting at a Beacon Hill apartment last week.
According to SPD, officers responded to a domestic violence call at around 8 a.m. last Friday. When police arrived, they found a man with a laceration on his face. After the man was sent to the hospital, the department says officers attempted to enter the apartment of the woman involved in the altercation, but she had barricaded herself inside.
After obtaining a warrant, the department says officers entered the apartment and “at some point” an officer shot the suspect, injuring her.
In the newly released video, the woman appears to be wielding a tire iron as a weapon.
Officers can be heard saying: “Hands! Hands! Other hand! What’s she getting? No!” before a single gunshot is heard.
The woman was arrested and taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition, but officials say she is expected to survive.
An officer was also hurt, but not shot, SPD confirmed. They were treated and released.
The Independent Force Investigation Team of King County (IFIT-KC) is taking over the investigation into this use of deadly force.
