Man found dead in middle of highway after hit-and-run

Federal Way police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run after the body of a bicyclist was found in the middle of a road.

The body was found on southbound Pacific Highway South near South 279th Street shortly after midnight Friday.

Police said a bystander flagged down an ambulance that happened to be driving by.  Medics performed CPR on the man, but he could not be revived.

Authorities said the 34-year-old man appeared to have been struck while riding his bicycle. KIRO 7 video showed a mangled bicycle on the roadside.

A man who was sitting in his car told KIRO 7 he heard a thud and glass shattering.  When he drove his car over to see what happened, he saw the victim in the street.

On Friday afternoon, police said they were searching for a truck that appears to be an early 2000s Ford Ranger pickup truck.

Investigators said the truck appeared to be gray, may have damage or missing pieces of the front grill, which is a black diamond or hexagon pattern.

The truck was last seen driving westbound on South Dash Point Road.

Anyone with more information is asked to call 911 or the 24-hour non-emergency 253-835-2121.
