SEATTLE — A Bellingham fourth-grader, and biking enthusiast, was surprised with her very own custom bike – allowing her to continue the activity she loves.
Patricia Steyer received the specially-configured $1,400 bike at Seattle’s Magnuson Park on Friday after she had outgrown her previous ride.
Eight-time U.S. Paralympic medalist Oksana Masters was on hand to present the bike to Steyer.
"My cheeks are just numb from just watching her reaction. I'm definitely not more of an emotional person, but seeing her smile definitely makes me want to cry," Masters told KIRO 7.
The bike was donated through The Hartford's Ability Equipped Program and the Outdoors for All Foundation.
Outdoors for All specializes in bringing outdoors activities to kids who may have more difficulties than others.
Masters said organizations such as Outdoors for All were crucial to her and will continue to inspire others.
“I don’t like to say disabilities, they’re unique differences and adaptive equipment is so expensive and so limiting. I know exactly what it’s like to want to try something but you don’t have the resources to try it,” Masters said.
