KITSAP COUNTY, Wash. — A man fleeing from police ran into a Kitsap County lake contaminated with blue-green algae Monday.
At about 11 a.m. on Labor Day, a Kitsap County deputy was patrolling the Kitsap Lake boat ramp when a man with a warrant for third-degree malicious mischief -- domestic violence, ran into the brush when he saw the deputy, according to the sheriff's office.
Police K-9 Heiko and his handler were called in to track down the suspect.
Heiko tracked the suspect into Kitsap Lake, which has been closed since July 24 due to high levels of e-coli. Last Tuesday, the Kitsap County Health Department issued a no-contact order due to potentially toxic blue-green algae. %

A deputy had to row out to bring the 37-year-old suspect, officers and the K-9 back to shore, where they were decontaminated by Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue.
Heiko had to be taken to the vet for treatment and is currently undergoing blood tests to determine his health condition, according to the sheriff's office.
