Mariners advance to ALDS; schedule released

Seattle, WA. – T-Mobile Park erupted as the Seattle Mariners completed one of the greatest comebacks in postseason baseball history, meaning there were all kinds of emotions in the air.

“My hands are still shaking. I can’t ... I … I’m speechless. This is unbelievable!” Jack Maloney said.

“I think I just pulled a muscle in my arm!” Josh Wright said as the M’s won.

Fans were sipping on champagne after the victory. Many were still processing what they just watched.

“This is bonkers! Like, I’ve been waiting since 2001 to relive this. This is crazy!” Erin Matter said.

“The fact that we came back from 8 to 1 was the most insane comeback I’ve ever seen!” Andy Agus said.

But what are many crediting for the win besides great play? Shoe Guy. The fan who put his shoe on his head as a rally cap when things were grim.

“And so I was like … you know what, it’s looking a little bleak. I’ll throw the shoe up on my head. And then the next thing I know, it took off and we scored a lot of runs,” Ben Cox, aka Shoe Guy, said.

Many believe the fad can take the nation by storm.

“Just like we did with the wave, it’s going to go national!” fan Ryan Burke said.

But Cox believes the shoe had nothing to do with the victory.

“There’s a lot of baseball superstition. And a shoe on the head … I don’t think it’s worth national media. It’s silly,” Cox said.

“All credit goes to the boys,” Cox said.

After the win, fans are hopeful for the M’s.

“I think we have a chance. We have great pitching. Great hitting. We’ve got the dumper working out for us! So, of course. Why not?” Cox said.

“We’re coming back and we’re taking this thing! I feel it in my soul! We’re doing it!” Maloney said.

“We got this. You know we don’t like the Astros. We got this!” Matter said.

The M’s will now prepare for the Houston Astros in the ALDS.

According to Major League Baseball, the Mariners will play Game 1 in Houston on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 12:37 p.m.

Game 2 will be in Houston on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 12:37 p.m.

The Mariners will not be hosting watch parties for the ALDS.

Game 3 will be in Seattle at T-Mobile Park on Saturday, Oct. 15. Game time is to be determined.

Game 4, if necessary, will be in Seattle at T-Mobile Park on Sunday, Oct. 16. Game time is to be determined.

Game 5, if necessary, will be in Houston on Monday, Oct. 17. Game time is to be determined.

“Whether you are at home, in the bars across the area, coming out to the ball park, support them! They’re working their tails off right now for us. We gotta be there for them,” Maloney said.

Cox plans to attend Game 3 of the series, as well as many fans.
