Evacuation orders canceled after wildfire burns near Soap Lake

GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — Authorities in Grant County have canceled all evacuation orders after a wildfire had burned 300 acres near Soap Lake.

At around 2:47 p.m., a level 3 evacuation notice — meaning immediate evacuation — was issued.

The fire burned heavy fuel and was driven by the wind.

People living in the following areas were told to evacuate:

  • 21000 block of Road D.5 Northeast,
  • Area of Road D.5 Northeast and 20.6 Northeast,
  • Area of Road D.5 Northeast and 20.7 Northeast,
  • 2400 block of Road 20.8 Northeast,
  • East of Soap Lake,
  • Adrian Road between State Route 28 and Road 20 Northeast,

Deputies went door to door to notify people to leave, as the wildfire began to threaten the safety of 50 structures.

No injuries were reported.

The Grant County Public Utility District said the wildfire had caused two power outages: one that affected 100 customers in the Soap Lake area and another that affected 300 customers in the Winchester area.

Authorities have not said how the wildfire started but are investigating.
