Driver killed in two-car rollover collision in Federal Way

One person is dead and another is in the hospital after a violent rollover crash in Federal Way.

Police had to shut down a section of 356th Street for several hours Thursday morning while investigating the cause.

“We just heard somebody flying down the road and then a really loud metal, ‘Bang! Crash!’” said neighbor Shawna Blue.

Neighbors near 356th Street and Eighth Avenue this morning woke up to debris was scattered all over the road.

The crash involving two cars happened around 2 a.m.

“When I looked down, I saw a car completely rolled over, and so you knew there was a fatality,” said neighbor Christina Sparkman.

Police say one of the drivers died at the scene. She was in her late 40s.

The driver of the other vehicle was a man in his mid-30s. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Neighbors say wrecks happen often at this intersection.

Federal Way police tell KIRO7 since 2017, there have been 16 collisions, two of which involved fatalities, including Thursday’s.

“People don’t abide by the speed limit, and that intersection specifically, I mean, there’s been multiple accidents over there,” said Blue.

“What scares me more is the people that are running red lights and stop sign because that’s happening more and more, and out here it’s really bad,” said Sparkman.

Police say the circumstances surrounding this incident are still unclear, but the people who live in this neighborhood have a message for drivers.

“Slow down. Pay attention to where you are going. There’s not anywhere that you need to be that’s that big of a hurry that you can speed,” said Blue.
