Driver having medical emergency seen going wrong way, hitting several vehicles, deputies say

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A Pierce County deputy witnessed a driver going southbound in the northbound lanes on Meridian Avenue East in South Hill and allegedly causing a collision involving six to seven vehicles, officials said Thursday evening.

The crash happened before 7 p.m. at Meridian and 176th Street East and Sunrise Boulevard East.

According to authorities, the driver had a medical emergency when he hit several cars and then went head-on with another car before coming to a stop.

No one was seriously injured, a Washington State Patrol trooper said.

The collision had caused both directions of Meridian to close.

The crash remains under investigation.
