A mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Illinois is fresh on the minds of many Americans today, including those who attended Bothell’s Fourth of July parade on Monday.
Many people that KIRO 7′s Lauren Donovan spoke with had yet to hear about the tragic incident, but those that had were sad and hopeful that nothing like that would happen here.
“It is sad what happened in Illinois, but we feel OK coming out with our kids here,” said one paradegoer.
Hundreds lined Bothell’s Main Street for the first parade since 2019.
Full of star-spangled spirit, people KIRO 7 talked to said nothing would rain on this parade three years in the making.
“Sorry for the shooting that happened, but now I feel I’m safe here,” said Rem Alayoubi.
Six people were killed and dozens more injured when a gunman opened fire on a parade route in Highland Park, Illinois, on Monday morning.
“It could happen anywhere, anytime,” said Mohammed Alayoubi. “Whether parade or without parade.”
Law enforcement not only participated in Bothell’s parade, but officers were also amongst the crowd, keeping their eyes on things.
